****** PRICE is 9 ***** This is a rare game-worn helmet of forward Craig Cunningham
from the AHL's Tucson Roadrunners in the team's inaugural 2016-17 season. He was named team captain and had 4 goals and 9 assists in 11 games before suffering a near-fatal heart attack on Nov. 19, 2016 during warmups before a game against Manitoba at the Tucson Community Center. Team trainers and medics rushed to his side along with some local fire firefighters who were on the ice to perform the national anthem as part of a Scottish bagpipe and drum band. There is some black reside on the left side panel and the crown area from the medics' latex gloves as they carefully removed the helmet off Cunningham's head.
On November 19, 2016, he was hospitalized after collapsing on the ice during a pre-game skate prior to a Tucson Roadrunners contest against the Manitoba Moose
in Tucson, Arizona.
Cunningham suffered an acute cardiac arrest caused by ventricular finrillation
, causing his heart to stop beating and requiring 83 minutes of continual CPR in which an on ice medical team and staff at St. Mary's Hospital and Banner-University Medical Center effectively saved his life.
In his recovery he later addressed the media about the incident and his condition on December 21, 2016.
After developing an infection due to circulation problems from his cardiac arrest, his lower left leg was amputated on December 24, 2016.
Cunningham developed an infection and had to have his lower left leg amputated a month later, ending his hockey career. The Roadrunners retired his #14 during a ceremony on Oct. 27, 2017. This
CCM helmet appears to be a size medium with a black CCM logoed visor. Moderate overall use with all original team logos, numbering and AHL decal. Cunningham was a 4th round pick of Boston in 2010 after playing in the WHL for Vancouver and Portland from 2006-11. He played for the Bruins from 2013-15 before signing with the Coyotes, where he played sparingly for two seasons. After recovering from his amputation, Cunningham worked for the Coyotes in scouting and player development. He now is working as a pro scout for the Vegas Golden Knights.
This helmet was obtained from the Roadrunners. A portion of the sale of this item will go to Cunningham's charity. **
